Understanding Our Technology

SenseWear® Armband The armband collects real-world metabolic data

SenseWear® Display Shows up-to-the-minute patient feedback

SenseWear® Website Allows for armband data uploads (website only), manual input of nutrition intake, and health indicators such as weight and blood pressure

Detailed Reports Detailed reports are generated providing easy-to-read activity profiles and trends. Trusted professionals and participants can review the data and progress to gain insight into sleep, nutrition and activity patterns to evaluate adherence to prescribed behavior therapy programs

Understanding Our Technology:
At the core of the SenseWear® solution is the multi-sensor armband. By simultaneously measuring five key metrics – Skin Temperature, Galvanic Skin Response, Heat Flux, Ambient Temperature, and motion via a 2-Axis Accelerometer – the SenseWear® armband gives both the individual and healthcare professionals real insight into the participants physical activity behavior and lifestyle. The SenseWear® armband lifts the fog of inaccurate lifestyle information generated by subjective questionnaires and single-sensor activity-tracking devices.

An extensive amount of research and investment, $35 million, has gone into creating this technology.  More than 1 billion minutes have been collected, currently 7 million minutes have been used to write algorithms and compared to the gold standards, doubley labeled water and the metabolic cart.  Our relative accuracy approaches 92% dependant upon the actual physical activity.

Understanding the Metabolic Assessment Program:
Every individual believes they lead an active lifestyle.  In order to achieve a healthier status, whether that relates to weight loss or an improved medical condition, one realizes that a more active lifestyle can significantly improve ones health status.  This program is not a short term approach, to truly achieve your goals, long term behavioral modification is strongly recommended and achievable by taking advantage of not only the technology but the associated programs, Metabolic Assessment & Weight Management System.

Under the Metabolic Assessment Program, MAP, an individual will learn, see, and understand exactly how they live from a physical activity status.  The information collected will accurately reflect one free-living life style.  This information is key to understand the individual.  The MAP is an excellent base-line understanding that allows one to modify their lifestyle to make adjustments to further improve their health and achieve their weight loss goals.

The Metabolic Assessment Program, MAP, is very simple.  You will be asked to wear the SenseWear® armband for a period of time, anywhere from 7 days to 30 days.  The longer the program, the more complete understanding of your physical lifestyle. Note that the MAP does include sleep efficiency which is also a key component to your lifestyle assessment.  As part of the program you will be asked to wear the SenseWear® armband approximately 23 hours a day.  The armband is splash resistant but not water proof.  Please remove armband when bathing, swimming, or showering.  Other than wearing the SenseWear® armband, nothing else is required on the part of the participant.  At the conclusion of the program you will provide the armband back to the provider who will upload the data and consult with you concerning the findings.

Understanding the Weight Management System:
It is strongly advised that the participant complete the Metabolic Assessment Program, MAP, prior to participating in the Weight Management System, WMS.  You are not required to complete the MAP, this is your choice, and participating only in the WMS is acceptable but in order to achieve the results and the long term behavioral modification benefits, it is advised.

The Weight Management System requires that the participant use the internet, connect to the WMS web portal, upload their caloric expenditure, log their food nutrition, and set goals with their provider.  This process again is very simple.  It is recommended on either a daily or two day interval one takes the armband off and uploads to the WMS web portal.  Your provider may also include an exercise plan and/or a meal plan.  The WMS is often referred to as a "Caloric Balance" program.  The reason is obvious, WMS compares on a daily basis the amount of calories consumed compared to your calories burned.  Most health improvement programs cannot offer the ability to know your caloric expenditure.  This technology provides true accurate feedback comparing calories in versus calories out.  Your goal of achieving your long term health improvements will be met by following the WMS program.

Include in the WMS program is the Display unit.  This option allows for the individual to self monitor their caloric expenditure by the minute.  This tool set, the armband in conjunction with the display, will allow an individual to make important decisions through out the day concerning their activity levels.  When you achieve your daily goals, your display unit will compliment you by informing you that your goal has been met and at exactly what time.  On the other hand, the participant will realize at any time within the day where they stand concerning their goals and activity levels and can make a choice to do an activity that will impact their caloric expenditure.

If you want success concerning your health improvements, both the MAP and the WMS will assist in you achieving your goals.  The technology is proven, the programs are most effective, the long term behavioral modification approach is proven.  Sign up immediately and learn about yourself, your life style, your physical activity, your nutritional consumption, and your healthy way of living.
